“At the Window“ is an experimental filmic essay about a woman who is approaching the seemingly stigmatizing forty years of age. Purposely shown in dismal pictures, she is pondering pretty self-piteously, but not without self-irony at the same time, about her current “in-between“ state. This state currently lets her freeze in inactivity, resignation, and surrender in a male-dominated world of apparent youth-cult and makes her think about her remaining options. Or rather lack thereof. At the same time, a second level is opened up in the form of pale text inserts flashing up here and there. These pieces of well-meaning but also patronizing and stereotyped sounding advice are opposing her negative attitude. Will she be able to retrieve herself from her partially self-inflicted misery and realize that there is no reason to give up?
