This film by Mateo Martinez has been named a King's Award Finalist at NYU’s First Run Film Festival, awarded an Official Selection at the Hispanic International Film Festival (HIFF), named a 2024 National Board of review Student Grant Winner, and won Best Short Film at the Carpe Diem Festival in Barcelona. Cacique del Monte follows Aníbal, whom after looting and desecrating sacred lands, must escape from one of the most dangerous Zars in the emerald trade, while holding onto a gem that could change his life. Shot on location, within active emerald mines, the film stands as a heartfelt homage, a love poem to Colombia -a land of ancestral gods, enigmatic beauty and mystique.
