In Fear For My Life looks at the way policing within the Black community, leans into the old adage, the more things change, the more they stay the same. When I wrote, and later directed this piece, my aim was to take the oft repeated "I was in fear for my life" and really dig into who that statement truly adheres to? Which party most feels the sting of those words; maybe both? I also wanted to give a lens into how Black boys, Black men, Black fathers shoulder the burden of that phrase and how it impacts the Black women in their lives.
