It is Christmas Eve Day, 1962 and a teenage girl living on Alcatraz Island runs the risk of losing one of her best friends... an inmate. "Letters From Alcatraz" is an award-winning film that has appeared at over a dozen festivals worldwide. The director, Madeline Rozwat is a San Francisco native and came up with the story when she visited Alcatraz Island and learned about the community of wives and children who once lived there. This movie was filmed on location on Alcatraz Island, giving it an authenticity that wouldn't have been otherwise possible. The National Parks Service was a major player in the production, given that we utilized their Sutro Baths, Municipal Pier, and, of course, Alcatraz Island facilities for filming.
