this segment of the documentary Life Happens deals with the often overlooked benefit to "typical" children when they are allowed to be in mixed classes. After several problems including multiple student suicides, Brandon Gruber convinced his parents that they needed to let him stay so he could show these students another way. His high school was very polarized financially, and Brandon found many kids were excluded because of of money. Being excluded was a feeling Brandon had come to know since starting High School. Prior to that, his parents had made sure the school was aware of his abilities, not his label. High School and fate stepped in to allow Brandon the platform to demonstrate that he could use "his god given gift of Down syndrome to show the world kindness" .
