Over a quarter of Rio's 6 million population live in favelas, under a constant threat of eviction, as gentrification pushes the poorest residents to the margins. From an idyllic childhood on the edge of a lagoon, to the notorious ‘City of God’, to the dramatic evictions from Vila Autrodomo, in the name of the Olympic games, Altair’s story is the story of Rio. He has become a fighter through a life-long quest to put down roots in the city of his birth.
