It is a river with the familiar and commonplace name of Smith that flows North by Northwest from its source in the mysteriously named Crazies’ and Castle mountains, it cuts, as Norman Maclean said, “through the basement of time”. Smith River in June offers an intimate portrait of beloved Montana artist Monte Dolack as he sets out to capture the beauty, magic and wildness of this place with the delicate strokes of a paintbrush.
