"The Art of the Journey - The Ben Jones Story" depicts the influences that impacted the art of socially conscious Artist, Activist, Professor Ben F. Jones. The film opens and closes with the artist painting of a mural of slain teen Travon Martin. After the documentary's director, William Michael Barbee studied Ben Jones' influences of his era, he noticed the parallel of violence committed against people of color. That parallel helped to shape the narrative for this film.
