An underwater Super 8 adventure. Every summer we drive north to explore the cliffs, grottos and inlets along the northern coast of Lake Huron. Tombermory sits at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula, the waters surrounding it are deep, freezing cold, and perfectly clear. This trip has become a summer ritual, and I wanted to document it in the most authentic way possible. For me this was shooting on super 8 film. Not being able to see any of the footage, or even know if the camera was working underwater was the most magical part of the process. I only had a few cartridges of film to shoot over a week, and almost everything I shot made it into the final film. Shot on Kodak 50D/5203/7203 film, using a Braun Nizo Camera in a DIY underwater housing. Equipment provided the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto. www.lift.ca Film transfer by Frame Discreet. www.framediscreet.com Music by Landon Speers. landonspeers.brandcamp.com Directed, shot and edited by John Ker. www.johnker.com
